Spotlight: DJ Wickedin10tionz
1. What or who inspired you to pursue a career as a DJ, and how did you get started in the industry?
When I was 16 years old, I saw my older cousin DJing for the first time, and I was instantly intrigued. Watching him control the energy of the room through music, seeing how the crowd reacted—dancing, smiling, completely immersed in the sound—was powerful. It inspired me deeply. I realized then that I wanted to be the person behind that energy, creating moments and memories through music. From that point on, I started exploring the world of DJing, little by little. What began as curiosity quickly turned into passion, and I've been hooked ever since.
2. Orlando's music scene has seen so many waves – from breaks to house, techno, bass music, and everything in between. How have you navigated these shifts while staying true to your own sound and brand, or did you have to slightly evolve with them?"
The music industry is constantly evolving, and the best way to keep up is by being adaptable and willing to test the waters. Every crowd is different, and it’s up to you as a DJ to read the room and figure out what your audience wants. Be open to everything and anything—music has no limits. One of the most valuable things you can do is learn about different cultures; it helps you understand people on a deeper level, which reflects in the music you play. Don’t be afraid to ask your guests what they’d like to hear. Taking requests isn’t a weakness—it’s a strength. Sometimes, a guest will give you exactly the insight you need to take your set to the next level.
3. What were some of your first regular gigs or residencies in Orlando?
Downtown Orlando was my old stomping grounds. Right out of high school, it was the place to be—and I must have played at over 20 clubs and DJ’d hundreds of nights there. It’s where I really honed my craft and learned how to read a crowd, night after night. As I’ve grown and gained more experience, I’ve started to transition into private events. These days, I’ve played at just about every major venue and banquet hall in the area. It's been an exciting evolution—from packed clubs to more intimate, curated experiences—and I’ve learned something new at every step.
4. Is your name just a vibe—or is there a story behind the “WickedIn10tionz” identity
Growing up, all my family and friends used to call me a wicked child. I was always up to something—pulling pranks, taking apart my toys just to see how they worked, or being the class clown at school. The nickname “Wicked” stuck with me early on. Later, as I started getting serious about DJing, I thought more about the meaning behind it. While my actions weren’t always the best, my intentions were never truly bad—just mischievous. That’s when the name DJ Wickedin10tionz was born. It represents who I was growing up and the energy I bring to every set—bold, unpredictable, and always with purpose.
5. For many DJs, especially those with longevity, there's often a 'golden era' they look back on fondly. For you, what period in Orlando's (or your own) music journey felt particularly magical or transformative, and why does it stand out?"
I’ll always remember the people I met along the way—the connections I made and the unforgettable parties I was a part of. Throughout my time as a DJ, I had the chance to cross paths with some incredible artists, including Lil Jon, Drake, Skrillex, Tiësto, Travis Porter, Keith Sweat, Wisin y Yandel, and many more. Those moments weren’t just cool experiences—they were milestones that inspired me to keep pushing forward. I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything. They’ve played a huge role in shaping who I am as an artist today.
6. Reflecting on your career, is there a particular event or moment that stands out as especially memorable or impactful?
Every event I’ve been a part of holds a special place in my heart. It’s hard to pick just one that stands out because I truly enjoy every single one. Each event brings its own energy, its own crowd, and its own unforgettable moments. I honestly can’t choose a favorite—because I genuinely love what I do, and I’m grateful for every opportunity I get to share music and make people move.
7. I think its pretty cool that I asked you this question over a decade ago myself. What advice would you give to aspiring DJs looking to break into the Orlando music scene?
The best advice I can give to any up-and-coming DJ is this: Be fair to the game. Don’t undercut others just to get ahead—it might seem like a shortcut, but it’ll set you back twice as far in the long run. Respect the craft. Don’t underprice yourself, and at the same time, don’t try to overachieve beyond your current experience. Know your limits, especially when you’re playing someone’s special event. Their day depends on you showing up 100% prepared and professional. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Reach out to experienced DJs. Watch them. Learn from them. Grow through their guidance—because one day, you’ll be the one teaching the next generation. And lastly, don’t be that DJ who only looks out for themselves. The moment you think you know it all is the moment you stop growing. There’s always something new to learn—new techniques, new music, new ways to move a crowd. Stay open. Stay humble. And most importantly, stay passionate.
